Volunteer Opportunities with the Hispanic Committee of Virginia
The work of the Hispanic Committee of Virginia is posible thanks to the work of many volunteers.
Annually, more than fifty individuals serve as program or administrative volunteers.
In fiscal year 2010, these volunteers served a total of 3,367 hours.
Here are some ways you can volunteer:
Social Services
Holiday Gift Giving Event
Read stories and use puppets to entertain children waiting to see Santa during the Hispanic Committee of Virginia’s annual holiday gift-giving event.

Financial Education and Homeownership
Financial Education and Homeownership Seminar Assistants
Assist during the Hispanic Committee of Virginia’s Financial Education and Homeownership Seminars. Activities include registering clients, helping with set-up/clean-up and assisting workshop facilitator with class exercises.

Employment
Job Fairs
Help the Hispanic Committee of Virginia operate quarterly job fairs. Activities include registering employers and job seekers, setting up/cleaning up booths and classrooms, overseeing refreshments.

Adult Education
English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructors
Assist ESL instructors who teach adults to navigate everyday life in English. Incorporate creative and participatory teaching methods to make learning enjoyable and relevant.
Citizenship and Civics Course Instructors
Introduce topics such as U.S. government and history, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and how the electoral process works to adults preparing to take the U.S. Citizenship Exam. Volunteers commit to assisting and teaching 1 night a week for at least 6 months.

Hispanic Entrepreneurship Program
HEP/NxLevel Class and Seminar Assistants
Help with logistics/greeting/registration or light clerical work at the Hispanic Committee of Virginia’s basic- and advanced-level Small Business classes and seminars.
