
Nury S. Márquez Executive Director
FALLS CHURCH, VA, January 12, 2009 –The Hispanic Committee of Virginia announces that Nury S. Márquez has been hired to serve as executive director of the Hispanic Committee of Virginia.
As Director, Márquez will provide leadership and strategic direction and supervise the implementation of programs and services that align with the agency’s mission, meet the needs of the Hispanic community and improve the public’s understanding of the community. She will also be responsible for resource development and building external relations with key stakeholders.
Nury brings twenty years of experience in corporate and foundation philanthropy and non-profit leadership and management. Since 2001, she held the position of corporate community relations manager at Public Service of New Hampshire (NH), that state’s largest electric utility, where she managed the Company’s charitable giving and foundation grant making. She also led opinion leader outreach and communications. Prior to that, Nury was Director of the Manchester School to Careers Partnership, a workforce development collaboration. For nine years before that, Nury served as the founding executive director of the Alliance for the Progress of Hispanic Americans, an organization she founded to improve the educational and employment opportunities of New Hampshire’s Hispanics. Nury holds a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Economics and an MBA in Finance from the City University of New York.
Nury served and held leadership positions on many non-profit boards, including NH Public Television and the Community Colleges of NH Foundation. She was co-founder of the NH Minority Health Coalition, Vote Now NH Hispanics and Vision Hispana. She was strategic advisor to the NH College & University Council’s Latino Student Initiative. She currently serves as Trustee Emeritus of the Norwin S. & Elizabeth N. Bean Foundation. Nury is a Fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute and is the recipient of several awards, including the NH Champion of Diversity Award and the Granite State Award for Exemplary Service to the State of New Hampshire awarded by the Trustees of the University System of New Hampshire. She was named NH Leaders for the 21st Century-Education by Business NH Magazine.
